Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

A relatively new surgical procedure, laparoscopic hysterectomy enables the detachment of the uterus from the inside of the body using laparoscopic instruments.  Removal of the uterus takes place through a small incision which is made at the top of the vagina.

Because the incisions can be so much smaller (up to ½ inch), laparoscopic hysterectomy is much less uncomfortable than abdominal hysterectomy.  A patient's hospital stay is substantially shortened, and resumption of normal activity can take place in about two weeks.
